Asus' new J501 Phone

This will be my first blog and I will concentrate on what's new from Asus, the premiere electronics company from Taiwan.

On 01-18-07 Asus came out with their competitors to the Sony Ericsson W-Series and Nokia N-Series with the J501 Slider Phone. It is in direct competition with the SE W850 and Nokia N91.

It is only 1.66 cm thick, which is about .65 inches. It has a 2.2 inch QVGA screen (240x320 pixels), 2 Megapixel Camera, supports mp3, aac, mpeg4, and h.264. Memory is expandable to 2Gb. It has two features that I think are pretty special. One is that you can use the Bluetooth to connect to your computer to use as a Skype phone. The other feature is you can double the camera as a webcam.

It's a triband phone so you probably won't want to use it in United States but the good news is that it costs only about US $300 without any contract.

I personally think this phone looks nice and knowing the Asus quality, it shouldn't be a bad phone. It is too bad the way wireless carriers are setup in United States reduces the phones people can use.
